Hillside K9 Academy Alumni: An update on Rossi and Kristi
It was a bitter sweet day in July of 2018 when one of Hillside's very first Belgian Malinois protection canines and mother to many following academy pupils left the facility for her forever home in Phoenix. Since then we have received a few wonderful letters from Rossi's new human companion, Kristi, detailing their travels through Arizona's hiking country and (dare we say) spoiled retirement! As the weather grows chilly, our hearts stay warm at seeing Rossi's absolute joy in her new life, and wish the pair many happy years of exploration!

Hello, Shawn and Jennifer!
2019 was a wild ride for both Rossi and myself. We were able to hit the trails until early March and then again in early October. We’ve found our favorite trail in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve and hike it often. Rossi does great with an alternating walking schedule (2mi one night, 4mi the next) and constantly gets car horns honking, policeman stopping to chitchat and everyone else to comment on her beauty.
Her personality seems to grow everyday and she keeps me laughing with her attitude and clumsiness. Rossi has been one of the best things to happen to me - she’s my source of a huge amount of joy. I feel very grateful to have such a special bud to accompany me through life. I hope you all have been doing well!
p.s. Rossi loves Sedona and hitting dramatic poses for pictures, and as you can see in one she approves of my new air mattress.
